But there's so many nobodies out there who wants to be Somebody. If 90% of the population of the world want to be Somebody, then they all get to be Somebody, then being Somebody wouldn't be special anymore, and then being Somebody would just make you be a Nobody-Somebody, then you would try to be a Somebody-Somebody after that, and the cycle repeats itself. Does anyone understand that?
And that's why it's just so freaking hard to be a Real Somebody. That's why all the Somebodies are so famous, because it took guts and a shitload of balls and brains to become that Somebody. There're writers, of course; J.K. Rowling, (Harry Potter, Duh); Christopher Paolini, who wrote Eragon when he was only 15 and then self-published for a couple of years before he got snapped up by Random House (I don't think lots of you people knew that); NOT Stephanie Meyer or Mayer or whatever the hell her name is (Twilight was born of her perverted wet dream of Edward and daydreams of being Bella); Dean Koontz, who's currently my favourite, and seriously, do you really want me to keep writing about authors? I'd totally bore your brains out.
And then there's those sports people. Then there's the Somebodies who are actually just really pretty people who can act. Some are actual Somebodies who're trying to do good, act and look hot all at the same time, (Angelina Jolie! Emma Watson*!), and some are just total bitches who spend 60% of their time wasted and the other 40% cam-whoring. But who am I to judge? =)
Then there's the tons of other people who if I were to really mention would mean you'd keep reading and reading and reading and.. Yeah.
But just off my head, I can mention so many. So is it really so damn hard to be a Somebody?
HELL. FUGGIN. YES.
Some people become Somebodies through acting, some through speeches, some through singing, some through drawing...
Me? I want to write. Speeches can cause a revolution NOW, but the written word can last forever. (I don't know if that's a quote, but if it's not, it's mine now. Heh.) I mean, so much later, Shakespeare can still drive people to tears with Romeo and Juliet, and to thought with Macbeth. Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice is one of the most famous love stories ever, and now the whole two different stereotypes getting together is an extremely famous concept that millions of romance writers use.
You can shout a bunch and raise a war, (Hitler), or you can create something new and help the future (Einstein), or you can make art and years later inspire others (Da Vinci), or can you pave the way for stereotypes of race, religion and gender and orientation (Ellen DeGeneres, Oprah, Obama).
With a book, with some words just thrown together, you can break a heart and put it back together again. With a book, you can ruin a civilization, or create a new one. With a book, you can change a mindset, or enforce one. With a book, you can help, or you can curse. With a book, you can leave a legacy.
So that's what I want to do. It's bloody hard, I know, so don't call me ignorant. It's that whole retarded 1% inspiration 99% perspiration crap. But at the moment, that's the only thing I can see myself doing. Okay, so research makes me puke, and being biased is part of being human, but the people who write such detailed, unbiased books are human, after all.
So maybe 5 years later I'll be studying some random shit, look back on this and think, Wow, I was dumb kid with my head in the clouds, but now, it's my dream, and it's what I want to do. Maybe 5 years later, I'll look back on the things I write now and think, this is really really SHITTY, did I really think I could write a bestseller that can last through the ages with this? Maybe 5 years later, I'll hate writing because I can't get a single article published, or win a single writing competition, but now, it's 5 years before that, and I've got maybe that much time before my pessimistic side kicks my head out of the clouds.
And maybe, just maybe, I'll write something that inspires some kid to write, like how Koontz now inspires me, because you boil everything down, the written word IS important. Not textbooks. Storybooks. Novels. Think about it: Movies come from scripts, which come from scriptWRITERS. Same with television shows. Radio talk shows, some are scripted, maybe, some not. Almost everything is scripted, and to script it, you need someone who can write. So it boils down to writing, yet again. What boils down to writing?
Dreams, and hope.
And this is really sort of optimistic and unlike my usual depressing writing style, but that's part and parcel of being a writer. You can't write a books completely full of angst, because you'll just bore your reader to death. You can't write a book with just lame romance and falling in love, because there are about a few hundred books like that, and ever other 13 year old can write one, if not as long. You can't write a book about adventure, if your adventure is the same as every other adventure writer who writes about finding hidden treasure.
So, yeah. To write a book that will make kids and adults alike THINK, because nowadays people just do and do and do, and talk, and they just don't stop to think. Sometimes I think that's it's the kids, who, to us, live such simple lives, who are the smartest people. You see kids who argue all the time, but 5 minutes later, their friends again. You see kids who fall, then get up and fall again, and they do this with a smile on their face. And then you see the adults who argue, then grab a gun and shoot. You see the adults to fall down deep and hard and fast, and never get back up again. So really, who're the adults here? Is it really that the older we grow, the wise we get? Then why does it seem like the older we grow, the more we stress?
A thought-provoking book. A book that transcends stereotypes. A book that guys, girls, kids, adults, blacks, whites, yellows, reds, effing BLUES, straights, gays, and everything else in between can read. I don't even know if that's possible, but I can give you one example. The Dictionary. And that's a lame and retarded example, but hey, it's proof that something like that CAN be written, although insanely boring.
I'm bored of this boring writing style. Let me get back in touch with my inner me...
FOLLOW YOUR BLOODY DREAMS, RETARDS, CAUSE IT'S ALL YOU HAVE, EVER.
Sometimes, I wonder if my blog posts are too long. I wonder if people can stand reading such small words for such a long time to actually reach the bottom here.
And maybe I'm rambling, but hey, even rambling's writing, right?
*Emma Watson is collaborating with a line called People Tree, who manufacture garments from environmentally-friendly Fairtrade certified organic cotton and natural dye. That was so copied and pasted.
My tag for Monster Chats will now also be used for super long posts like that, which can really only be described as a MONSTrosity.
